LIFE | Fashion Show
So you remember how one of my goals this year was to be a part of putting on a fashion show? Weeeeeellll...I have a meeting today with one of the directors from the Art House. I sent her an email about a month ago, and she really liked my idea! So today we are meeting up to discuss the when, the where, and things like budget. Shut up. I know. I will keep you guys in the loop!

FASHION FRIDAYS | Then and Now
My my! I can't believe I went almost a whole week with no posts! My apologies, work is kicking my badonka. Plus I have been preoccupied with creating this lookbook for you lovelies, and trying to get inspiration for my 29th birthday [insert appropriate emoji face here]. I know I can't believe it either. But all the buzz about how to celebrate it got me all nostalgic and I started looking at pictures of me from almost 14 years ago (even that sounds weird). I was a TOM-BOY for sure. No mistake indeed (which explains a lot about me not getting all the boys in the yard back then--not much has changed but at least I had an excuse then!) I thought I would show you one of the few pictures I have of myself from high school (I think I only have about 10). I was 15 in this picture, toward the end of 9th grade and I was (still am) a Lady Vols fan. My wardrobe of choice most days consisted of trackies, sports tee, addidas kicks and my collection of bucket hats. Trimmings usually involved hemp bracelets and shell necklaces (I lived anywhere from 5-25 minutes away from any beach so that was normal jewelry wear). I mostly wore it for comfort and for the fact that my 165 lbs of muscle couldn't fit into most girly clothes without looking like I was trying too hard. Anyway, enjoy this morsel of my past and thank the Lord that this phase passed....eventually :)

BEHIND THE DESK | One little indian
I really love this sweater from Mango. The geometric pattern around the collar puts a simple, modern twist on the native American theme that is recirculating this season. Paired with a mini skirt and some boots and a feathered pendant necklace. Good to go!

The Tomgirl Series | The Face of Spring
Spring fashion always seems to mimic (so literally) the flowers coming into bloom, color coming back and sunshine. Looking like an Easter egg was fine and dandy when I was eight, but at 28 I should probably try dressing my age, even if I am still that carefree 8 year old. It seems like the fashion world got the memo is stepping away from traditional avenues of Spring wear. Abstract prints and strong lines mixed with airy colors and material make for a much more grownup yet playful new wardrobe. Here's to Spring.

LIFE OF A TOMGIRL | Girl we scoutin'
Sorry I was MIA for the last two days. If you have been following me on instagram, you would have seen my collages throughout the day of my photo/camping trip I took with two friends of mine. Chris asked if I wanted to go take pictures of an abandoned phosphorus factory. I said sure. Frankie added "Lets go camping too." The problem with camping with guys is surpisingly not having to share a tent; its their lack of preparedness for said adventures. Apparently, this is the hipster thing to do, but that's how McCandles wound up dead in Alaska.
I always get ragged on for "overthinking" and being cautious, but the jokes get tossed to the side when they are hungry and all they brought were milk duds, orange juice, and dried apricots. I admire them for their carefree spirit, being able to breath in toxic remnants of phosphorous, or walk through overgrown bushes without the thought of a reptile living there (we are in everglade country for goodness sakes). At any rate it was nice to live on the edge as long as I was harnessed to an oak tree and I enjoyed the time with my boys and I would do it all again.

WARDROBE WEDNESDAY | Frames
As a graphic designer, I am 80% of the time on the computer, and it has taken a toll on my eyes. I have been on and off with eyeglasses since I was five. My eyes always seemed to correct themselves.
My closet is a graveyard for neglected glasses frames that will never dress my eyes again. I had gone through at least 5 pairs of glasses before I hit middle school. I think my mother was grateful I didn't need them in middle school but by college, I found I needed them again. The pair I wanted were too expensive so I was stuck getting some that didn't fit my head very well because they were the less expensive choice. Two years ago, I got the two for one special, but of course only a select few were on that special, none of which fit me at all, but all I could afford.
Last year a friend told me she had gotten a pair of online glasses, so I looked at Coastal.com and got a deal on a pair of Vera Wang gunmetal frames, but unfortunately they sit very low on my face (the downside sometimes to doing online shopping for glasses--you don't get to see what you look like in them). Then Warby Parker frames. They send you free pairs to try on and then you can make your decision. Great idea, but I couldn't afford them! The pursuit continued.
I just found a website where I can do a virtual look of what the glasses look like on me. I've been having way too much fun with this thing.

OOTD | Jones and Kryptonite
Tomorrow I am helping my friend out with his portfolio and I am doing headshots, which means I had the tedious task of washing and straightening my hair the night before. Of course it would rain, but in an effort to protect all my hard work (4hrs total) I knew I was going to have to do a hat. The rest of the outfit followed suit.

BEHIND THE DESK| Sugar Plum Fairy
I am not a huge fan of color coordinating an outfit so that my shoes match my purse or the little flecks of blue in my blouse. It seems too calculated and time consuming. My mother spent weeks trying to find matching shoes to a gown she was wearing to a debutante ball she was invited to and even argued with me over my suggestion with going with a silver shoe because she said the colors wouldn't match (she had yet to try the combo). To me I find, you put yourself in a box. But I do so much love monochromatic outfits especially in blacks and neutrals, but I wanted to see how well it worked with other more saturated colors. Its one of those things where you don't have to put so much time in thinking about what matches because its all in the same family. I like to break it up with a different color shoe (for some reason it always feels like too much whenever the shoe matches everything else.

FASHION FRIDAY | OPP Swap Shop 2013
If you live in the Orlando area and are in need of a cheap shopping
spree well, that time is fast approaching. Other People's Property (OPP) is having their first swap shop of the new year! Check out their Facebook Event for more info (Wendy especially for you) March 15, 2013 at 6pm.
Bring unwanted clothes and get someone's unwanted clothes. Depending on
when you drop off your items the admission is between $7-$12 so the
earlier you drop it off the cheaper it is. Once you're in, dig in! You
even get complimentary bags to shove all your clothes in, but don't
hesitate in bringing extra bags. I will be up there trying to get some
"new" duds. Also there are sometimes a few kid items up for grabs too
depending on what gets donated.
Rules to follow when getting there:
1. Arrive early. There will be quite a few people showing up and it gets crazy fast.
2. Everything is separated by article, not by size. This means you may have to dig through stuff. If you find something that looks like it might be your size grab it and try it on after you've finished sifting through everything.
3. Go in there with an idea of what you are looking for. Just browsing until you find something you like will get you no where really. Its ok to grab something you weren't necessarily looking for but like, but it is easy to walk away with stuff you really did not need and do not work at all with anything you already have in your closet.
Pretty easy. Hope to see you there!

FASHION FRIENDS | The Originative
I am not sure how many categories I will create as this blog continues to go. This is my first year so I am [as a graphic designer] in the sketching and roughs stage, so I am throwing every idea on the wall and seeing which ones stick. Anyway, this segment I want to highlight fashionable friends of mine here in the Orlando area. Some have blogs, pages, sites, something that you can follow, while others I just deem inspirational and stylish.
Meet Paulina of the husband/wife duo The Originative.

I met her two years ago while volunteering with Bajalia. For her (and her husband Paul) fashion is defined by HER and not the other way around. She makes everything look effortless but so cool and cohesive, I wish I had her brain. She is a French speaking Polish-bred Canadian citizen from Montreal who married her American boy and blessed Florida with her awesome personality and creative style. You will be seeing more of this little lady, but for now you can follow her and her husband on instagram @theoriginative.
The Originative blog is now up and running as well! I am so happy that people like them exist here in Florida. Not only are they tres cool, but they are the sweetest couple you would ever have the pleasure of meeting. Please go and support by following them!
