LIFE| Broken car

Such a lovely day. Somewhat interrupted by my car not starting. I was praying for it to not be my alternators. Thankfully, it was just my battery. Tow trucks are fun to drive in. Paying for a new battery, not so much. Not quite understanding why the price for one is so high when the warranty on them is nonexistent.

Photoshoot with friends

A few of my lovely friends and I got to model for OPP on Sunday afternoon to bring in the fall season. Lovely Natalia Edwards did my makeup and she did such a fabulous job at making it look like I wasn't wearing makeup that people at church couldn't figure out why I looked different. Tony Adams of Big Wheel Provisions catered for the shoot and it made me feel like I was home for thanksgiving. The man is a culinary genius. When I get the pictures from the shoot I will share!

HAIR STYLE | New hair, new look

So this is my new hair cut. I haven't been this edgy since my college days. I am an old soul and wardrobe is pretty basic in solids and patterns but I wouldnt mind adding some edge and mixing it with the elegant. What say you? Suggestions? I wouldn't testing out some Elisa Nalin style with her cool sense of color and pattern combination.

OOTD | My favorite skirt

This pencil skirt is becoming my favorite item in my closet. It goes with practically everything! The color screams fall and I love the fact that I can dress it up or down since I live most of my life in a dress down format. All of these items except the earrings, purse and shoes came from various swap shops so this outfit is practically free.

I love when fall hits Florida because its still warm enough to wear shorts but cool enough to where my knee caps don't sweat.

OOTD | The Librarian

I have officially started wearing my fall colors. Browns, tans, and nudes. The rain today brought a nice chill this evening, which was nice as a wool skirt does not do well in a summer heat. Today was my day at the library for my internship. I got the compliment on my choice in colors as well as just the outfit in general. Mostly from homeless people (that might be saying something--haha). One said enthusiastically, "Those are fantastic colors!" and another one said "Fancy shoes!" The most awkward one was, "Do you by chance work with Michelle Obama because you have a shape just like hers!" (side eye). Anyway, this look was definitely more girl and less tom, but guns are still very tom. *Le sigh* they are not very delicate looking, hence why I feel the need to dress up more often than not. I look less like a boy.

TRAVEL | Atlanta

I got asked to be a part of a routine to be performed at the Catalyst conference in Atlanta. I have never been to the conference before but I have heard many great things about it! I havent been back to ATL since Thanksgiving so I cannot wait to get back there!

***UPDATE***
Here are some pictures from the event. Our group performed in front of more than 13,000 people! I was NOT expecting that. We did shadow movement to a monologue of different organizations who make things in order to make a difference. These organizations were present at the event and were able to sell out of their items after our performance! Praise God!

GENT | The Event

Its nice to play dress up and be an adult every once in a while. As GENT grew closer I could feel the anxiety floating around me. The biggest question was "What do I wear?" No one had ever gotten dressed up to this magnitude before, but J.O. was setting the bar high and I do not think anyone wanted to disappoint. In my honest opinion, if everyone had channeled Mad Men or some show of that nature, it would have been stress free. But we have such an eclectic group of people when it comes to hobbies and style, so transforming them into something against their nature is difficult. Still I think everyone looked lovely and dapper. Sadly, I did not get a picture of myself in my outfit! Bummer! But here are some pictures from the event itself.

Swap Shop

I have been putting off buying anything for this GENT. event until the swap shop. What is a swap shop you ask? Well, it is where you bring your old clothes to a specified location, and then you get to shop for other people's clothes. It used to be free, but now there is a small entrance fee. Still, I get to grab however many clothes I want. I have never walked away from a swap shop empty handed. This time I actually walked away with newer items (no vintage pieces). I helped Dana of OPP sort through all the men and women clothing for most of the morning, and I get to pull a few items before the actual swap and shop.

I walked away with two dresses, a white blazer (my heart's craving for months) from Anne Klein, a clutch wallet, and four tops. The white blazer I want to go with my cream shorts for the event, so now I just need to find shoes and a top. Trying to figure out the best combo. But so far of my $50 budget for a month, I have spent 12 and that has been for hemming the shorts because the shorts I got almost a year ago. Can I do it? My dilemma is whether or not to wear a top that matches the white blazer or matches the cream shorts. And what color should my shoes be? Decisions. Decisions.

Inspiration? Time for some pinteresting.

LIFE | Field Day

My friends T and Jorge and I put together our brand new church's first annual field day. About sixty people from our church, the community, and the surrounding area came to participate. We made flags from the hit Nickelodeon tv show Legends of the Hidden Temple, and made trophies from old vases and silverware. It was a fantastic day! So blessed by these fine folk.

TENNIS SHOE | Baby Phat

Baby Phat tennis shoes on sale $12.99. My first purchase for September in my $50 Challenge

I do not normally even give a side eye to Baby Phat merch. So many sparkles of bejeweled and bedazzled, my eyes should flock to it like a moth to a porch light. Instead, I try to keep myself from gagging. But I stumbled across the most tame of all the Cats of Phat. So simple, that feline logo did not even phase me. Neither did the price. Mostly because it was on sale for less than $15. The insides are plaid. The soles are a purple felt-like material. I love the caramel brown leather accents on the outside with the grey canvas. I need something casual and street wearable. A tomgirl does not have to sacrifice style for comfort or vice versa. This is both in harmony.
