BOOK INSPIRED LOOKS | The Great Gatsby::Gatsby

BOOK INSPIRED LOOKS | Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is always depicted with women in fringe and pearls, and the men in tuxes all living the party life twenty.four.seven. If you are wealthy, I am sure this is not far from your reality, but for us folk who come from small beginnings, style must blend in with practicality. Jay Gatsby did business in an unconventional way: he was a bootlegger disguised as an "Oggsford" man. This look sheds the normal suit and tie attire for the office (why can't they just say Dress code: Must look presentable) and takes the whole mullet approach: business in the front party in the back. Simple shirt, chino, and tie, with a loafer instead of the normal oxfords and paired with a fun quilted moto jacket. All black, with a hint of green, keeping the memory of Daisy close to his heart.

Want to try the tomgirl version? Simple! Try a sheer black button down instead and add some heels if you like.

BOOK INSPIRED LOOKS | Divergent::Erudite

DIVERGENT | Erudite

Erudite faction focuses on obtaining knowledge. The blue color they wear is said to be calming as to aid in their clarity of the mind. I went with something studious yet laid back and not as uptight as some of the Erudite characters come off in the book.

After reading the book, I went back and forth between which faction I would have been in. I am a behind the scenes kind of person, not trying to draw attention to myself, but I am very black and white as well as have a thirst for knowledge. While I was online reading the faction manifestos I saw a link to take the test. It was cheesy of course, but I found out I was...{hold for dramatic pause} DIVERGENT. And it was as I guessed it, a blend of the three I mentioned (so Erudite of me). If anyone of you have read the book, what faction are you?

BOOK INSPIRED LOOKS | Divergent::Amity

DIVERGENT | Amity

Amity faction wears the peaceful colors of either yellow or red or both. Mixing red and yellow together can be tricky as it always makes one think of hamburgers and hotdogs. I broke it up with some neutral colors and used less saturated hues of the two colors. I am interested to see how the movie mixes the two colors. I am thinking less bright and airy to go with whole dystopian theme.

BOOK INSPIRED LOOKS | Divergent::Dauntless

DIVERGENT | Dauntless

Dauntless is the faction that focuses on bravery. Their are also the military faction, wearing mostly blacks (think military gothic). I love the structure behind their faction all the while still being untamed.

LIFE | UNCOVERED photo shoot part 2

Yep. I am still here. I am still there too. Praying that all this stuff comes together. I have had a few setbacks, but if anything the experience is challenging me in ways I have not been challenged in a long time. Its unnerving to say the least. Here are a few promo sneak peeks from a month ago (I know. Slacker. But I have a good reason.) I can't wait to show you more!

BOOK INSPIRED LOOKS | Divergent::Abnegation

DIVERGENT | Abnegation

I love reading. While I was in school I was denied the pleasure of reading for...well pleasure. During my last semester, I actually had some down time during interning to pick up a few books. A mixture of Michael Crichton books and a YA book called Divergent (balance. after reading about the space time continuum, a teenage dystopian society deflates the egotism swelling in my brain of surviving a Crichton novel). Bravo Veronica Roth. This is one of the books that will be featured in the fashion show this November, and the stylists have their looks, but I wanted to play around with the interpretation for my own personal wardrobe. So for the next couple of weeks or so I'll be doing segments on book inspired looks (hey I just found my title!)

Anyway, that being said, for those who haven't read the books...just wait till the movie. It might explain the factions better. But a crash course on it all is that there are five factions in a futuristic Chicago that embody five characteristics that are believed to keep humanity from civil unrest. Abnegation is the selfless group, the invisibles if you will and the faction of the protagonist in the story. They wear greys, a very muted color that keeps them from focusing on themselves.

Breezy. Pure breezy. This is what Florida needs to model themselves after: the Parisians. They get an A+ for summer wear.

OOTD | Leather cropped blazer

I am back!...well at least when I have the time. I found this wonderful 100% leather blazer and a matching skirt at Edgewater's thrift store for $18.00! Then I got the new kicks for $15 at C. Russe with a discount my sister got while buying her pair. The darling necklace is from World Market for $10. All under $50. This tomgirl is patting herself on the back!

INSPIRATION | Resort Wear

This Friday, I will be doing a shoot for Marriott's Harbor and was asked to bring "resort wear" attire. I have lived in the the resort capitol of the United States for more than a decade now, I still have no idea what this means. I mean I am usually in skinny jeans, boots and a tee whenever I go on vacation morning, noon, or night, so I never pay that close attention to what I am wearing. I know what Florida's idea of resort wear entails: shorts, flops, and usually some tropical motif to validate that you live in Florida. I was told I would get extra brownie points if I had a caftan.

Google is my friend.

I researched the heck out of this style of clothing and had NO idea that there is actually a niche for Resort Wear (the season in between winter and spring fashion lines). Apparently designers needed something to fill their already busy schedules and came up with this genre of clothing. At any rate, I found some looks more up my alley, with designers like Chloe and Stella McCartney relieving a tomgirl like me from having to succumb to commercialized Jimmy Buffet fashion.

50 DOLLAR CHALLENGE | GAP

Good things come to those who wait.

Yesterday was pay day. I wanted to update my wardrobe with more basic and classic items that could be worn with anything. Thursday, I went to GAP and found they were having a 50% off sale...but I was only browsing. I just wanted to see what was available so that I would know whether it was worth it or not to come back on Friday. Well, with Friday came the additional 40% off. That's right. I was elated. $160 worth of pants for less than $50!! Oh it is so, Joe!

FASHION FRIDAYS | Tropical Print

TRENDING | Tropical Prints

TRENDING | Tropical Prints by andiaschehera featuring high-waisted shorts

Summer happened 3 weeks ago for the US, but Florida has had its fill since January. I have been clinging onto winter with my baggy sweaters, long sleeve button ups, boots and black attire, but I guess its time to let the warmth in a little. I think fashion has finally gotten the hang of Hawaiian print: as long as it is paired with a structured solid color and the print doesn't flow too much (we are not going for the sunburned tourist effect) I think this print can stick around for a little while.

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?!

Wowzas. I have been away for an incredibly long time. What have I been doing with myself and why haven't there been any recent fashion photos? Well for the last month and a half I have been overseeing other photo shoots and working on the upcoming fashion show that I told you all I wanted to accomplish this year. Then a week ago, my "tom" got the better of me and I sprained my ankle playing basketball. I won, so that it is all that matters. I got dubbed "Crutchy" (for any Newsies fans out there) by my sister and I have been hobbling around ever since then.

I did happen to squeeze in a photo shoot with OPP this past Wednesday, while balancing most of my weight to my good foot, so as soon as I get those pictures I will post them for sure! But I do have a lot of post coming up this week because I have been pinteresting like crazy trying to get inspired for the summer, which for Florida has been here since January. Anyway, stay up to date on my life via my INSTAGRAM, swollen foot, wild things, and all.
